GERMAN MATH OLYMPIAD - EXAM CONDITIONS
General Conditions
- The official language of the German Math Olympiad is English and all exams will be conducted exclusively in English.
- Open to all students in grades 3 to 11.
- All online exam participation is FREE of CHARGE.
- The exams are conducted entirely online, and there is no paper-based exam option available at test centers or schools.
- Exams can only be accessed through the Student Panel; no alternative exam links will be sent via email.
- Students must have a reliable internet connection, a camera and a compatible device (PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone).
- Students unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances are not eligible for make-up exams.
- The use of calculators, books, printed materials and all other electronic devices is strictly prohibited.
- Detailed exam rules and guidelines will be provided one week before the exam date.
- Exams are monitored through an integrated camera system; students must use a device with an active camera.
Exam Structure
The Olympiad consists of 2 online and 1 onsite rounds:
- Preliminary Round (Online - FREE)
- Final Round (Online - FREE)
- Grand Final Frankfurt, Germany (27 April - 3 May 2026)
Online Preliminary Round
- The exam will take place on 29-30 November 2025 (Saturday and Sunday).
- The exam will be open for a 48-hour period according to GMT.
- Students will have 60 minutes to complete the exam.
- The exam will consist of 30 multiple-choice questions (A/B/C/D).
- Students will participate in 3 grade groups:
-> Group 1: Grades 3-4
-> Group 2: Grades 5-6
-> Group 3: Grades 7-8
-> Group 4: Grades 9–11 - The results will be published separately for each grade group.
- Depending on the total number of participants in each grade, a minimum of 100 and a maximum of 500 students will qualify for the final.
- All participants in this round will receive a digital participation certificate and a detailed exam report. (No medals or achievement certificates are awarded at this stage.)
- Detailed exam rules and guidelines will be provided one week before the exam date.
- Exams will be monitored through a camera system integrated into the exam platform. Students must use a device with an active, functioning camera throughout the exam.
Online Final Round
- The exam will take place on 14 December 2025 (Sunday).
- The exam will be held at a specific, predetermined time. The exact schedule will be announced later, taking into account the local time of each participant.
- Each exam will last for a total of 30 minutes.
- The exam will consist of a total of 10 questions, including 7 multiple-choice questions and 3 open-ended questions (no solution required).
- Students will take the exam in groups organized according to the same grade levels as in the Preliminary Round.
- The results will be published separately for each grade group.
- Students will be ranked based on the following criteria to determine their final positions:
> Highest score
> Shortest completion time
> Most correct answers
> Fewest incorrect answers - Exams will be monitored through a camera system integrated into the exam platform. Students must use 2 active, functioning cameras throughout the exam. Instructions on how to use the cameras will be provided prior to the exam.
- All participants in this round will receive a digital achievement or participation certificate.

Grand Final Round - Frankfurt, Germany
The Grand Final, featuring both individual and team competitions, will take place in Frankfurt, Germany, in May. Detailed information will be shared later under the Grand Final menu.
